Isla Ometepe Nicaragua
The test of an adventure is that when you're in the middle of it, you say to yourself, "Oh now I've got myself into an awful mess, I wish I were sitting quietly at home." And the sign that something's wrong with you is when you sit quietly at home wishing you were out having lots of adventure - Thornton Wilder, The Matchmaker, Act IV
Our journey on Thursday to this island involved 2 bus rides and a ferry. The ferry ride was a bit rough and we were about to see Mary's breakfast played in reverse when the boat did a quick 180 and pandemonium broke out among the various crew members. As I am here to tell the tale clearly the end of the story was not tragic. A broken rudder left us doing fun little circles until the next ferry on the schedule arrived to tow us to shore. In the last week we've had a broken down bus and a broken boat. I'm sure glad we're not planning to fly soon.
We had another little adventure today and we have no one to blame but ourselves. Having not read the bus schedules too carefully we found ourselves 6.5km from our destination with our heavy packs, 30 degree heat and no prospect of a bus or taxi in sight. There was a lot of sweating let me tell you.
In other news... Finished a great book today, it's called "Take Me With You" by Brad Newsham. Synopsis - Man sets out on a 100 day journey through Asia and Africa to find someone to bring back to America for a month.
Isla Ometepe is an island formed by two volcanoes in the middle of Lake Nicaragua. There is a lot of eco-tourism and agriculture here. We have a new record for low-cost accomodation. $4 per night got us two cots made of some sort of sacking material in a barnlike structure. It was clean, but no, there was no hot water.
Pictures have been added, enjoy.

Hi Mary, Its Erica. The girl who worked at the Westin as a SAles Coordinator for a fleeting 2 months. Your travels sound wonderful!!!. I loved Nicaragau when I was there in 2000. If you get the chance and can afford to go Little Corn Island on the East side is neat and relaxing, however you have to fly or get to Bluefields and then fly to Big Corn and take a boat to little corn. San Jaun Del Sur on the West coast was also nice. Enjoys your travels I will keep checking to see where you get to next.

Hi Erica! Great to hear from you. It´s neat to hear who is keeping track of us on the road. Unfortunately we missed the two places you recommended but are enjoying everything else.
