Cusco, Peru
Are you an adventurer? Take the following test...
Let`s say you have the following 2 options to arrive at the same destination:
Option A
A comfortable train journey lasting 3-4 hours through a lush canyon
Cost $80
Option B
3 hour hike through a lush canyon
1 hour standing in the back of a pick-up truck holding onto steel rails looking around at steep valleys, powerful waterfalls, and
1 hour in the back of a produce/general construction truck surrounded by a 6 foot high wooden wall with a 4 inch tall viewing slot running all the way around. The slot is at eye level so it also serves as a grip to hold onto.
1 hour in the front of same truck driving on roads just cleared of the recent avalanche debris
20 minute walk across a recent landslide to the next town when the truck can go no further
1 hour wait in a 1 street town for the next bus to come while hoping that there are enough seats for you
7 hour bus ride on winding, bumpy, mostly gravel roads (with an hour break because the road is closed for construction) alongside a child who will throw up at your feet within 10 minutes of arrival at your destination.
Cost $16
If you chose option B, congratulations you are an adventurer (or maybe just a cheapskate).
If you chose option A you are much smarter than Mary and I.
At the end of the day we were exhausted but exhilarated by the beauty of the things we saw. We look forward to taking the next couple days to recover.

option A!!! I would never pick the B, ahh- you guys are my heroes, wow what a trip that was.
ReplyDeleteI just love your stories.
take care,
donna
Cam and I have also found that the more you pay the less epic and often less fun your adventure is. Comfort is overrated.

Option B...This makes you appreciate option A alot more! More laughter when you remember option B.
