Aguas Calientes, Peru
Words do not adequately express the awe you feel when you see this place. The ruins are fascinating but the setting is what makes this place truly amazing. Steve found a copy of a book written by Hiram Bingham, the discoverer of Machu Picchu a few weeks before we arrived. He shared stories of the Inca and theories for uses of the buildings. Then we compared the tour guides versions with what Steve had read, sometimes similar, sometimes wildly different. In any case it was an enjoyable day with a highlight being the hike to Waynapicchu peak overlooking Machu Picchu. We spent the evening in the local hotsprings at the edge of town relaxing our sore muscles. Ahhhh.
