Copacabana, Bolivia
Unlike the Brazilian namesake there was no spectacular beach to sunbathe on. It`s a tiny town nestled on the shores of the famous Lake Titicaca. The trip from La Paz to here was extra exciting when our mini-bus driver started falling asleep at the wheel. He nearly missed a corner that would have taken us into a cliff face and another time it was the horn of the oncoming vehicle whose lane we were occupying that saved us.
Excitement aside the lake is truly beautiful. We enjoyed a boat trip to the Isla del Sol which some legends state is the birthplace of the Incas and its advanced culture. It`s a pretty big island and we stretched our legs with a 10 km hike along the spine of it ridges.
The local delicacy is lake trout and we enjoyed sampling it a few times with a variety of different preparations and sauces. The many local vendors would call Mary with shouts like "pretty lady, come try some trout".
We had planned to stay longer but two of the most uncomfortable beds we`ve slept in on this trip hurried us on our way to Peru.
