One of the interesting things about travelling is that it keeps life simple. You end up spending a lot of your time thinking about where you are going to sleep and what you´re going to eat.
Over the last few weeks we´ve gotten to eat some very memorable things. Some examples:
Strawberry & blackberry crisp - Mary and I teamed up to make this one on the day Zaak and Amber returned. We served it with a heavy cream and it was amazing.
Cacao fruit - You know, what chocolate is made from. Unfortunately edible chocolate doesn´t just grow on trees. The seeds of the cacao need to be fermented and processed before it can be devoured. There is a consolation however in that the pulp the seeds rest in is very pleasant and sweet.
Today at our hostel restaurant I had a chicken, potato, apple and curry sandwich that was not only tasty but incredibly filling.
Dessert pizzas - In Coban we found individual pizza crusts and we experimented with them a couple of nights. The first night we baked them with condensed milk, pineapple, and hot chocolate powder. The second night we threw them in the toaster, spread them with cream cheese and went again with the pineapple. The second type was the clear winner.
Despite the emphasis on sweet things in this post I will mention that we have both managed to lose 5 pounds so far on this trip.
