I think we have experienced one of our final ´last minute´flight bookings. It is exciting, albeit slightly nerve wracking to arrive at any given airport and ask for a ticket to our next destination. We arrived at the Caracas airport ticket counter Thursday morning at 10 am and by 11:15am we were boarding our flight headed towards Santiago. There is something to be said for the pleasure of anticipation of buying your airline ticket months ahead. We barely had time to use our remaining change in bolivars to buy some chewy toffees. Regardless, it was one of our smoothest travel days with many naps in transit to make up for the back to back overnight trips. We arrived at the Che Legaro hostel at 7:30 yesterday morning and fortunately they had two dorm beds for us. I was a bit worried because of the busy Easter weekend that we wouldn´t be able to find any accomodation, but no problems so far!
Santiago is a beautiful city of 6 million people with many parks, monuments and great architecture. We spend the afternoon yesterday wandering around the central area and watched the sunset from Cerro Santa Lucia overlooking the city. We are enjoying the relative quiet of the city comparted to Margarita Island and the mild climate similar to Edmonton in early summer. Right now it is sunny and 24 degrees and at night it cools down to to the low teens.
Happy Easter!
