Finca Ixobel - Steve
Today we are at Finca Ixobel near Poptun in eastern Guatemala. (finca=farm) www.fincaixobel.com
This farm has everything a traveller could want cozy accomodations, excellent food (much of it produced on site), a bakery, laundry services, internet, book exchange, ping pong, a spring fed swimming hole, guided excursions, and 30 years worth of National Geographic. Alright so it´s a little weak on Guatemalan culture but we´ll make up for that next week.
We plan to stay here until Friday night when we will take a series of buses to Antigua in southwestern Guatemala. After enjoying a few days there we will head to the city where we will live with a Guatemalan family and start our spanish lessons in earnest. This town is called San Pedro a Laguna and has been raved about by traveller´s we´ve met along the way. We´re anxious to improve our Spanish after suffering some confusion on our way here in which we weren´t sure if the bus driver was telling us that Mary´s bag had tumbled off the top of the bus where it had been stored or whether it had been moved to a new location under the bus.
