Learning

For the longest time, I thought that the date settings were wrong on the computers in Thailand. Until I saw a sign on one of our favourite restaurants. Closed until next week, year 2551. That was my aha moment. That moment I realized that Thai years are based on the Buddhist calendar. And the milk we just bought at the grocery store won't really last 500 more years.

I have also learned that it is very rude to blow or wipe your nose at the table in Thailand. (How can this be when the food is so spicy sometimes that my nose is dripping)?

Luckily we are foreigners. It seems to be our free pass to forget some of our Thai manners.

Also, the word for floor mat is the same as the word for tiger...with a different tone.
