Custom tailoring
Besides the unique culinary delights of Hoi An, the city is renowned for its plethora of tailor shops...200! Most are small stores that take your order, measure you and then send the job out to a central sewing factory. I found the experience to be quite overwhelming. If you don't know what you want ahead of time you can be in trouble. A tag-team of 3 girls try to lure you into the shop, then they try the no-obligation sales pitch. "You can try anything on"..."you can just look"..."I have many colours"..."I can make anything you want"...Steve and I tried on a few items at the first shop to a chorus of wowee's and oh-la-la's (even to the very unflattering, downright ugly pieces). We each ended up with a new travel outfit and fall jackets for back in Canada for a reasonable price. If I were to do it again...I don't think I would. I like trying on clothes in a no pressure situation, behind a locking changeroom door.
